Artists
Artists are the lifeblood of our region’s creative community. Murray Art Museum Albury aims to support the current generation and encourage the next by providing professional support and opportunities that complement those offered by arts and cultural organisations and communities locally and nationally.

Artist Opportunities
The Museum's support for artists touches all potential aspects of an artistic career. We provide exhibition opportunities, acquisition of work for the permanent collection, sale of work through MAMA Store, employment as art tutors, staff and exhibition contractors, networking and professional development events and access to exceptional artwork and artists through our nationally-recognised exhibitions and public programs.
Open Call
Each year, MAMA invites artists, artist groups, collaborative practitioners, curators and makers of all kinds to apply during our Open Call. The program is dedicated to presenting the work of artists from our region (Riverina Murray & North East Victoria), as well as artists from beyond the region whose work is locally significant.
In conjunction with the Open Call program, the Susan Moorhead Memorial Award is presented once every year to an emerging artist from our local region. The $2000 prize honours Susan Moorhead’s life of commitment to the arts.
RAW
RAW is an annual open call for young people aged 16 - 21, showcasing the best original artworks being produced by young people of the Murray region. The resulting exhibition highlights the unique perspectives and experiences of our local young people with artworks ranging from painting, to drawing, photography & digital media, and sculpture & installation.
Applications for RAW25 are now open.
Selling Your Work
MAMA Store
MAMA Store is a showcase for Australian design, with a strong desire to support local makers and artisans in the Murray region. We love to hear from makers and artisans that specialise in jewellery, scarves, homewares, books, children's toys or any other forms of artistic product design.
Exhibiting Artists
As a public museum, we do not directly facilitate the sale of artwork or take commission on sales. If exhibiting artists wish to offer their artwork for sale, we can support this in several ways including ensuring our vast network of art-interested collectors, curators and general public are introduced to the work.
Careers
As well as permanent staff members, the Museum employs a variety of casual and contracted artists to assist with the delivery of its exhibitions and programs. Arts professionals are welcome to contact us to find out about upcoming opportunities to join the MAMA team.
Networking
We believe local artists should have access to same level of opportunity afforded to those living in the major cities. Murray Art Museum Albury is a place to meet exhibiting artists and network with local artists. We aim for a relaxed setting at our public programs where open conversation is encouraged. The Museum presents exhibition openings, exhibiting artists and curators talks, book club, art courses and workshops, as well as focused presentations on various elements of professional practice.
Collection Acquisitions
A key tenet of the Museum's Collection Policy is the acquisition of works of art that highlight the strengths of artists and creative practitioners from the Murray region. Usually, acquisitions are made through commission or as a result of an exhibition ensuring a strong connection to the Museum's program. We also accept artwork donations through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program.
Resources
We encourage our local artists to actively participate in the local community and join in the national conversation. A strong creative community is built on mutual participation and support:
