Visiting with Kids

It’s great for kids to have the opportunity to learn new social skills and a gallery or museum can be a great place to learn and practice. Read these helpful tips and talk to your kids about what to expect before visiting us.

  1. Speak in your quiet voice
It is important that the whole family keep the volume of their voices low when talking to each other. Speaking loudly in a museum or gallery can make it hard for others to enjoy the space and concentrate on artworks and exhibits on display.
  2. Look but don't touch
In a museum or gallery, we are very careful not to touch the artworks.
  3. Stay close to your adults
Make sure family members remain close together and are aware of themselves and their surroundings. Behave politely by not shouting or running around. This will make it a good experience for everyone.
  4. Be aware of your surroundings
If you find a painting or exhibit that you really like and want to have a good look at it, make sure you stand to the side, so that others can enjoy it too.
  5. Ask questions and tell your adults what you see
A museum and gallery is a great place to discover new things! If you want to know more about a particular artwork, ask your adult to read the artwork label for you. Tell your family which artworks you like and why and find out what they think too.
