Planning Your Visit
School groups are welcome to visit the Museum at any time for either a free self-guided tour, guided tour and/or private studio session. We appreciate letting the Museum know if you are coming - whether self-guided or not – as this ensures we don't have multiple groups at once and makes for a more relaxed and accessible visit for everyone.
The Museum also offers special orientation sessions for educators to give them the tools to lead a self-guided tour for students. These sessions apply to specific exhibitions throughout the year.
Our Education Officer, Sophie Holvast is available to answer any questions about visiting the Museum or our exhibitions prior to booking on (02) 6043 5807.
What to bring
Students will be able to leave their bags in a secure room. It is advisable that students have a sketchbook to respond to the artwork.
Food and drink (other than water) are not allowed to be consumed in the Museum, but there are lovely shady areas in QE11 Square to enjoy morning, afternoon tea or lunch.
Social Story - Download & Edit
Prepare your class for their visual, spatial and social experience of MAMA before your excursion! This social story aims to provide students with an understanding of what they might expect, including arriving and departing the site. Download the pdf or editable PowerPoint document – teachers are encouraged to tailor details as required.
Mawang Program
Mawang is an art program designed for First Nations kids to enjoy a creative environment where they can be inspired by South-East Aboriginal art and artists.
The program is tailored to 9-12 year olds that are still in primary school (Grades 4-6). Kids living in both NSW or Victoria are welcome to participate.
Work Experience
Are you in Year 10 or 11 and interested in a career in the arts? Each year we accept a limited number of secondary students into our work experience program.
Students will experience all aspects of a working art museum, including exhibitions and curatorial, education and public programs, and visitor experience.
Placements are limited. We strongly recommend students apply early, and consider organising alternative work placement options.
Please contact Sophie Holvast sophie.holvast@alburycity.nsw.gov.au for 2025 placements.
