Susie Losch: Shelfie

MAMA’s popular Kids Gallery welcomed its second artist commission. Shelfie by Susie Losch was a space filled with the artists creations including a variety of colourful forms for you to select and arrange on a shelf of your choice. This process of selecting objects to create and re-create mini sculptural installations, almost mirrored the way in which Susie Losch creates her own sculptural artworks and large-scale installations.

The artist may have set the stage, but now she invites you in to make your very own creative and colourful sculptural scenes. Time to make your move!

This lively new space encouraged kids to stay and play in the Museum, and formed part of our permanent program. A new artist will take over the space every year, creating new opportunities to play and learn through artist-led installations.

The Kids Gallery redevelopment has been made possible due to funding from the Australian Government’s RISE program, and Destination NSW.

About the artist

Susie Losch is an artist based in North East Victoria, Australia. Susie has been making art for more than 25 years and her work is regularly exhibited in solo exhibitions and group shows, community art projects and installations.

Her practice involves the construction of assemblages from materials that have an intrinsic history. Through means of casting or combining incongruous forms and objects, the message is not strident but injected with subtle humour. Influenced by the concept of play and the unknown, bodies of work emerge and are constantly evolving. They retain remnant memories, experiences and new observations from time spent travelling.
