Kids Workshop: Clay Sculpture with Allie McCleary

Get creative and messy at this clay sculpture workshop for kids.

MAMA Studio’s clay workshop allows children to create anything that interests them, whilst learning skills in clay, such as shaping the clay and joining pieces.

This workshop is for primary school-aged children, run by ceramicist and textile artist, Allie McCleary.

Workshop Outline
Welcome & Introduction

An overview of the workshop, including an explanation of the equipment, materials, and project. Examples will be shown and discussed for the children to understand the concept.

Demonstration

A step-by-step demonstration of the techniques, including how to begin building a sculpture, how to attach features effectively, and add finishing decorative touches.

Creating

Children will choose what they wish to create and begin sculpting with tutor support to help them to achieve their goals.

Guided Support

The instructor will pause at key moments to demonstrate next steps to the group or provide individual assistance as needed.

Participants should have completed at least one year of schooling (Kindergarten/Foundation or equivalent).

Meet the Artist: Allie McCleary

Allie is a local multidisciplinary artist and tutor working predominantly with ceramics and textiles. Allie has trained in ceramics in Italy and is an experienced tutor for all ages. She excels in helping young artists to find their creative voice and build on their technical skills.
