Applications are now open for the 2019/2020 MAMA Exhibitions Program
11 July 2018
MAMA invites artists, artist groups, collaborative practitioners curators and makers of all kinds to apply for our 2019 / 2020 program. In addition, the $2000 moMAMA Susan Moorhead Memorial Award will be offered to an emerging local artist to assist in realising an exhibition at MAMA.
The opportunity to present painting, moving-image, photography, mixed media, sculpture, performance, sound, text-based work, ceramics, object-based and conceptual practices is provided as part of the great breadth of contemporary art that MAMA encourages, nurtures, desires and celebrates.
Artists from all backgrounds and levels of experience are encouraged to apply - senior artists, emerging, mid-career, self-taught, established and academic artists alike.
MAMA will host a free Applicants Information Session on Thursday 26 July at 5.30pm, to answer any questions artists might have, and step them through the application process.
This year, six artists and artist collectives were selected from sixty-five applications to exhibit at MAMA by a panel of nationally recognised visual arts professionals. This year's exhibition program was updated to better reflect the supportive role MAMA plays in local art. With increased support this year from Create NSW, upgrades to the program have been instated. These include the removal of financial barriers to local artists seeking to exhibit at MAMA, such as the removal of hire fees and the payment of national-standard artist fees. MAMA staff work closely with the selected artists on the development of their exhibitions, offering professional support, assistance with production and advice on advancing emerging careers.
