Join artist Kate Rohde for a day of colourful creating and sculpting in MAMA Studio. Kate is renowned for her bold, colourful, contemporary jewellery pieces, and is also an exhibiting artist, including her upcoming installation Little Gems in our five Wonder Cupboards.

In this full day workshop, Kate will share her extensive experience in creating silicone moulds to cast resin to create sculpture and jewellery.

Students will learn the essential skills for designing their own pieces in plasticine, and make simple moulds to cast their own designs. Participants will be using easy to handle,  fast setting, low odour materials for a quick and colourful result. Kate will also teach students how to finish their work, and the tools and techniques to refine their cast.

At the end of the workshop, students will be able to take home their completed mould and casts.

Meet Kate Rohde

Kate Rohde in her studio

Kate Rohde completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2001. Since then she has become known for her intensely detailed and colourful sculptural object and immersive installation based practice. The over-arching themes of Kate's work is the human relationship to nature and animals, with a particular emphasis on the collecting of animals, but also how they have frequently been used as the basis for decorative arts design, and feature prominently as motifs in historical art movements such as Rococo and Art Nouveau.

Working across a number of mediums, her various skills and interests have seen her work in a number of creative arenas, including collaborating with Australian fashion house, Romance Was Born on their Renaissance Dinosaur collection in 2010, to running skills development workshops in the Torres Strait islands.
