Tyler Grace: The Chronic Diaries
When: Thursday 18 May - Sunday 18 June
Where: Brindley Family Galleries, MAMA
Exploring the emotions and experiences of being a chronically ill child, teenager, and adult, this visual chronicle follows the artistic maturing of emerging artist Tyler Grace.
Tackling both the seen and the unseen impacts of chronic illness, this ongoing series is both beautiful and dark, taking the viewer inside the often unbearable world experienced by the artist.
‘My images are my most important storytelling tool… I aim to create an emotional impact whilst making others consider things that they may not have experienced in their own life…however, I encourage viewers to find their own worlds inside my images, and attach their own meaning’.
Tyler Grace was a finalist in the 2016 National Photography Prize, was awarded the Susan Moorhead Memorial Prize in 2016’s MAMA Art Prize for his work ‘Faceless’ now a part of MAMA’s permanent collection. He was the recipient of the $10,000 Young Regional Artist Scholarship from Arts NSW in late 2016, a shortlisted finalist in the Australian Photography Awards 2016 and the Contemporary Art Awards 2017.
This is the first time this body of work has been exhibited, and will be available for sale for the duration of the exhibition. A Buyer’s Preview will be held on the opening night of the exhibition, Thursday 18 May, from 5.30pm.
