Darkroom Workshop: Developing

When: Saturday 23 June, 9:00am - 12:00pm & 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Where: Workshop within the Commonwealth Growth Centre, MAMA

Price: $50

To celebrate our Season of Photography, we're bringing a series of four darkroom workshops to the MAMA Workshop. Led by professional photographers, the sessions will cover traditional photography processes and camera-less photography methods within a darkroom environment. Suitable for long-time photographers, first-timers, as well as those curious and interested in photo image-making. The four workshops include Photograms, Developing, Printing and Exposure Experiments.

Darkroom Workshop 2: Developing

This workshop is for those with an interest in manual photography - participants will need to shoot a roll of 35mm film prior to class. This can be done using a disposable camera, a manual SLR or an old compact film camera.

Tutors Dirk and John Wallace will lead participants through all stages of the development process – the best chemicals to use, and how you can re-create the process at home (without a darkroom!). Participants will explore a range of techniques on their roll of film and will come away with a fully developed set of negative images ready to be printed or scanned for further processing.

We recommend attending the following week’s Printing workshop to complete your darkroom education.
A handbook of notes outlining the entire process, chemicals and developing times will be supplied.

A roll of undeveloped 35mm (black & white) film, shot prior to the workshop.
MAMA will have disposable cameras available for purchase if you need to create some film.
Please contact us if you have any questions about the film requirements or materials for this workshop.
